Work with Softheld

Bring your story to screen.

For children's authors, small publishers, educators and creative organisations who want an existing story adapted to screen.

Softheld also runs workshops, project assessments and one-to-one sessions for people learning to create with AI tools.

Collaborations

A small number of projects each year.

Every adaptation is made with AI-assisted tools under close art direction, held to one specific aesthetic: slow pacing, a soft illustrative look, and quiet, restrained sound. The aim is work that moves and feels like a Softheld story, not a generic AI output.

Book to film adaptation

An existing picture book adapted to film at the pace of the book, built with AI-assisted animation under frame-by-frame direction and kept to a soft, quiet visual style.

Story trailers and short films

Short pieces for a launch, a festival or a school programme, made in the same visual world as the book and directed to the same aesthetic.

Visual adaptation and art direction

Where a story exists in words only, we develop a visual world for it and direct AI-assisted illustration through to finished artwork, holding every page to one consistent look.

Education

Learning to create with AI tools.

Sessions for authors, illustrators, educators and teams who want to use AI creative tools well, with the same emphasis on art direction and taste that goes into Softheld's own work.

Workshops

Group sessions for a team, a class or an organisation on directing AI tools toward a considered result rather than a default one, with hands-on practice on real briefs.

Project assessments

A review of an in-progress or finished piece of AI-assisted work, with specific notes on craft, consistency, art direction and where the tools are showing through.

One-to-one sessions

Focused time on your own project, working through prompting, iteration, art direction and finishing, at whatever level you are starting from.

How we work

Every project begins with a conversation about the story and what it is for. We take on only what we can direct properly, and we are honest early if we are not the right studio for it.

The work is made with AI-assisted tools, always under human writing, art direction and editing, and always held to a specific Softheld aesthetic rather than a default AI look. Nothing is left to the tool to decide. Rights in your story remain entirely yours.

Tell us what you're working on

For an adaptation, send the story, the audience you have in mind and what you would like it to become. We will tell you what we would do with it, or say if we are not the right studio.

For a workshop, assessment or one-to-one session, tell us who it is for and what you are making.
